About Us

What is Beat the Funk?

Reset. Reconnect. Beat the Funk.

Beat the Funk is an event series designed to help you break free from burnout, stress, and emotional ruts through music, movement, and shared community energy.

Why "Beat the Funk"?
  • Beat = The rhythm, music, and pulse that drives momentum.

  • Funk = The heavy, stuck feelings we all experience.

It’s our call to action: shake off what's holding you back.

What We Believe
  • Movement is Medicine: Shifting your physical energy changes your mental state.

  • Community Wins: Isolation turns into connection when the music kicks in.

  • Zero Perfection Required: Just show up, move, and leave lighter than you arrived.

Keep the Funk Alive... 🕺

The Message Behind the Name

At its core, Beat the Funk is about:

Turning low energy into momentum   |  Turning isolation into connection   |  Turning routine into experience

It’s not about being perfect or having it all together—it’s about showing up and letting the rhythm do the rest.

Who is Beat the Funk?

Fueling Care Through Funky Energy

At Beat the Funk, we believe that movement is medicine and community matters.

Founded by Brian Gorsich, our mission began as an MS fundraiser and evolved into a locally focused nonprofit movement. We blend live music, wellness, and high-energy events to support neighbors living with multiple sclerosis and neurological conditions across Central Illinois.

Local Fundraising with Full Transparency

100% Volunteer-Run | 100% Local Proceeds | 100% Direct Impact

We know you want to see where your support goes. That’s why 100% of our proceeds stay in Central Illinois, directly supporting local initiatives like the pro bono clinic within Bradley University’s Department of Physical Therapy.

Through this partnership, every ticket, donation, and volunteer hour directly fuels hands-on care for individuals who need it most. We're proving that raising money can be joyous, meaningful, and deeply impactful.

Meet the Board

"Life isn't about avoiding the funk—it's about finding the rhythm to dance through it."
